General Health and Welfare Statistics

General health statistics for Northern Ireland are available from the Health and Wellbeing Survey, as well as from the NI Labour Force Survey.

The Health and Wellbeing Survey is produced every 3 years and provided information on general health, including questions on mental health and back pain / musculoskeletal disorders.

The Labour Force Survey has on occasions within its winter questionnaire (January - March) asked the question - Have you suffered from an illness or disability in the last 12 months that was caused or made worse by a job or work done in the past.

Working for Health also links into the ongoing programme of Welfare Reform and emphasises the need for employees to return to work as soon as possible following a long-term period of sickness absence - This is summed up by the aims of the Occupational Health Support and Rehabilitation Team.
