Background

Working for Health

The Workplace Health Strategy for Northern Ireland 'Working for Health' is a ground breaking strategy, established in April 2003 which aims to achieve a "work culture that protects, promotes and supports health and wellbeing."

The Strategy is a crucial part of delivering on the Government's commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the working age population in Northern Ireland. The workplace is recognised in our public health strategy, Investing for Health, which identified the workplace as a priority setting for tackling health issues and health inequalities.

The implementation of Working for Health has been taken forward by the Workplace Health Strategy Steering Group and five Programme Teams, which are formal partnerships, involving representatives from Government departments, District Councils, health professionals, employer organisations, trade unions, HSENI and other key stakeholder organisations.
