About the Strategy
The Working for Health Strategy consists of a wide variety of public and private sector representatives participating in its various Programme Teams as well as the NI Workplace Health Network. The Strategy Manager and support staff are based at the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland. The Strategy aims to improve awareness of workplace health issues (stress, back pain / musculoskeletal disorders, asthma, dermatitis etc) and as a consequence, improve the health of our working age population, in order to benefit both employees and the local economy.
Until the launch of this strategy in 2003, workplace health within companies was perceived to have been focussed on safety rather than health. Numerous pieces of legislation already exist to cover workplace safety and these are enforced by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland and the local District Councils.
This strategy is specifically aiming to improve the health of the workforce in Northern Ireland.
In implementing the strategy partnership is still a feature of crucial importance. Working for Health is working with numerous partner organisations to raise the profile of health in the workplace and is promoting good practice on workplace issues, via regular Conferences and NI Workplace Health Network events.
This site will provide updates and relevant information on workplace health issues and relevant events for Northern Ireland and will also act as a signposting area to the latest information.
